The Spring/Summer 2012 issue of the Debbie Bliss Magazine is now out!The issue includes 30 designs, plus the regular features.
I love the seaside, so I didn't need much of an excuse re introduce features with a nautical theme in this issue, whether in the white, red and blue of 'Kid's Ahoy!' or the deep pastels in 'Simply Stripes'. The children's feature was a joy to work on, from the initial designs to the rather chaotic photo shoot. It was quite a family affair, My great nephew Frankie modelling the anchor sweater, his brother Sonny wearing the sailor suit and jaunty beret, and my grandniece Miri in the Guernsey sweater. Oscar, Lola and Marni, the children of friends, also joined in the fun.
Family was involved too when my daughter Nell traveled with me on a trip to Canada. I was invited by my Canadian distributor to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the launch of my yarn line. Over the years I have had to travel a lot on my own, so it gives me such pleasure to have Nell's companionship and to share the wonderful opportunities I am given. On this tour; that meant visiting Muskoka, one of the most beautiful places in the world, and an unforgettable book signing trip aboard a steamboat. It was my daughter's first visit to Canada, and she shares the experience with you in her diary, as well as a great recipe for Canadian oatcakes.
Your summer wardrobe will always benefit from a few delicate lacy knits, and they appear in two fashion features in this issue, but in very different ways. Party Angel, My mohair/silk yarn with a glimmer of sparkle, is used in openwork stitches to create ethereal garments that are just right for those occasions that call for something special. In 'Touch of Blush', four feminine knits demonstrate the lightness and drape of my new yarn, Rialto Lace, in a palette of pinks and a red.
